A brand new saddle and English leather bridle from the prestigious Jeffries range were given away in February to two lucky competition winners: 13-year -old Annie Deri rode off with the saddle; runner-up Denise Moody took away the bridle.

Jeffires Saddlery was the major sponsor of the 2011/2012 La Scala Studios short story competition. ‘The Jeffries prizes made all the difference,’ said competition organiser, Pippa Ireland. ‘In a year when economic gloom forced many short story competitions to extend their deadlines because they had so few entries, the La Scala Studios not-for-profit competition saw a record entry. We are grateful to all our sponsors, but particularly to Jeffries saddlery as it was their prizes in the equestrian section that really made a difference.’

The prize presentation was held on Saturday 18 February following a Dengie qualifying competition and show jumping in the spacious indoor arena at Tickton Hall Stables, East Yorkshire.

The main sections of the competition were judged by Yorkshire crime writer, Penny Grubb. The racing section was judged by executive producer of Channel 4 Racing, John Fairley.
